Autumn Tawashi for a sunny day

image

These are almost the same as the leafy coasters I made, only I knitted these with a scratchy Japanese acrylic designed for making Tawashi, or ‘scrubbies’. I added the loop so it can be hung, either from a little hook, or straight from the tap. I like the idea of domestic prettiness. It makes up for the dull fatigue of actually cleaning. Almost.

Working with colour

image

It feels good for the soul, to be surrounded by a richness of colour and detail. To work creatively with colour is even more enriching. To see things come alive in my hands, to look at my work basket with pleasure. These are things which keep me going, on grey days, in black moods. The night will end, and the sun will light all the colours of my soul. Colours I can hold in my two hands.

A set!

I finished this off at last Sunday’s market. A little green hat, diagonal mitts, and a moebius scarflet for a fresh little baby. Not sure yet whether the hat should be a frog or a bear, so I’m leaving it up to the imagination. ^_^

Leaf brooches

My sister and I discovered a craft shop in Kensington today, where we found, amongst other things, some little brooch backs. Home again, and I attached my hand knitted leaves to them, and I quite like the result. These will be available at this Sunday’s Makers Market in the Abbotsford convent in Melbourne.

Leaf experiments

Still seeking the perfect yarn, but My daughter loves these leaves. They are supposed to be for brooches. I think a few may find their way into a garland. The model is my 5yo’s leg. She didn’t mind. ^_^

Good sense is slowly acquired

It has taken forever to make one of these, but bamboo yarn and needles called me, and here is the result: a kitchen hand towel that won’t fall on the floor, can’t be mistaken for a dishcloth, is 60% more absorbent than cotton, and infinitely washable. Proudness ^_^

Madeit Store updated!

Well, I’ve been rather sick lately, but brimming with inspiration. To make room for new ideas, I’ve put some items in my Madeit store for (though not exclusively) Australian customers. My crocheted dishcloths are there, as well as my bear hats, and a new item for autumn – a lovely hand-knitted autumn leaf coaster!
